West Virginia University basketball tabs Witter as New assistant!

West Virginia University’s basketball program has welcomed Cavel Witter to its coaching staff, appointing him as assistant coach and coordinator for video analysis and scouting. This announcement comes from head coach Darian DeVries, marking a significant addition ahead of the upcoming season.

Witter arrives at WVU following a successful tenure at Drake University, where he contributed as assistant coach and operations chief. His efforts were instrumental in Drake’s impressive season, securing 28 wins and clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

Coach DeVries expressed enthusiasm about Witter’s appointment, citing their previous collaboration at Creighton University, where Witter played under DeVries and later served as an assistant coach at Drake. This familiarity with DeVries’ coaching philosophy and strategic approach is expected to seamlessly integrate Witter into the Mountaineers’ program.

Before his time at Drake, Witter gained coaching experience at Georgia Southern University as a graduate manager, following a stint at Lincoln University of Missouri, where he helped lead the team to multiple postseason appearances and tournament successes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
