WVU beats out SEC teams for Massive D-lineman!

West Virginia University’s football program is on a recruiting roll, securing another big commitment for the future. The Mountaineers have landed a commitment from Amir Leonard-Jean Charles, a standout defensive lineman from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 305 pounds, Charles brings size and talent to WVU’s defensive line.

In an interview with Mountaineers Now, Charles expressed his excitement about joining WVU, highlighting the strong familial atmosphere fostered by the coaching staff, particularly Coach Andrew Jackson. “I love the family vibe I get from them, especially Coach Jackson,” Charles stated. “All of the coaches emphasized the importance of being part of a close-knit team, and that really resonated with me.”

Tale of the Tape – My Evaluation

Mountaineer Paul breaks down the potential impact of Amir Leonard-Jean Charles

“Charles is just bigger and STRONGER than pretty much everyone lined up across from him. He flat out overpowers most centers and guards you see on tape, which could be a tiny issue going down the road. That won’t work at the Power 4 level, and there is A LOT of work to be done technique-wise on his game. He gets “high” at times with his pad level due to his large size, and he needs work with hand placement, But there’s a reason SEC teams were heavily involved with the specimen to begin with. With a little love, he could be a HUGE game disruptor from his 0 technique nose tackle spot in the middle of the defense. VERY excited for this piece to the Mountaineers’ defense!!!”

Charles and his mother, Antoinette Leonard-Jean Charles, a former WVU swimmer, visited Morgantown from June 7-9 to get a firsthand look at the campus and facilities. The visit evidently left a lasting impression on the young recruit, solidifying his decision to commit to WVU.

Despite receiving offers from numerous top-tier programs across the country including Syracuse, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia, Charles ultimately chose West Virginia University. His decision underscores WVU’s growing reputation as a destination for top talent in college football.

For WVU fans and supporters, this commitment is yet another reason to be optimistic about the future of Mountaineers football. With Coach Jackson and his staff continuing to recruit effectively, the program seems poised for success in the seasons ahead.
