Speedy Specimen Commits to WVU: Serious Stinyard Joins WVU Roster

West Virginia University’s football program has secured a significant commitment from Tampa’s Serious Stinyard, a standout cornerback from Gaither High School. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 180 pounds, Stinyard brings a blend of athleticism and defensive prowess that caught the attention of recruiters during the evaluation period in May.

Choosing WVU over several other notable offers, including North Carolina State, Kentucky, and Kansas State, Stinyard finalized his decision after official visits to West Virginia, Minnesota, and Kansas State. Expressing his excitement about joining the Mountaineers, Stinyard recounted the moment he informed the coaching staff of his decision, describing a jubilant reaction from the WVU team.

Offensive coordinator Chad Scott led the recruitment efforts, with secondary coach ShaDon Brown playing a pivotal role in Stinyard’s decision-making process. The Mountaineers plan to utilize Stinyard’s skills as an outside cornerback, emphasizing his ability to lockdown receivers and make impactful plays on the ball. In his previous season, Stinyard demonstrated his defensive capabilities with 19 tackles, three interceptions, and five passes defended over 11 games.

Reflecting on his commitment, Stinyard expressed his lifelong dedication to playing cornerback, citing his childhood dreams as a driving force behind his decision to join WVU. Beyond football, Stinyard boasts impressive achievements in track and field, clocking 10.7 seconds in the 100-meter dash and excelling in the 200-meter dash and long jump.

Stinyard joins a promising group of defensive backs committed to WVU, including Elgin Sessions, Terrance “Deuce” Edwards, Sammy Etienne, and Zah Jackson, marking the Mountaineers’ 15th pledge in the current recruiting cycle.

With his speed, tenacity in man coverage, and instinctive ability to disrupt receivers, Stinyard’s commitment underscores WVU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defensive lineup. Areas for improvement include ball skills, but his capability to unsettle opposing offenses adds a dynamic dimension to WVU’s defense!

Stinyard’s arrival at West Virginia University signals a new chapter for the Mountaineers’ defense, promising fans and teammates alike an exciting season ahead.
