West Virginia Football Program Lands Commitment Taylor “TANK” Brown!

The West Virginia football program is bolstering its future defensive line with the latest commitment from Upper Marlboro native, Taylor Brown. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end chose the Mountaineers over several notable offers, including Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Memphis, among others.

Brown caught the attention of West Virginia’s coaching staff during an unofficial visit to campus in April, eventually earning a scholarship offer from defensive line coach AJ Jackson. His official visit from June 7th to 9th solidified his decision to join the Mountaineers.

Projected as a defensive end, Brown’s skill set is marked by his ability to effectively rush off the edge. His junior season at Wise High School showcased his knack for disrupting plays in the backfield, tallying 11.5 tackles for loss. With a strong motor and adept hand usage, Brown is poised to make an impact at the collegiate level.

West Virginia views Brown as a versatile asset, capable of slotting into various positions along the defensive line. While he will need to continue developing his size and strength, his potential is evident. His commitment marks the first defensive line addition for the Mountaineers in the 2025 recruiting class and represents the 12th overall prospect in this cycle.

Brown’s late emergence in West Virginia’s recruitment efforts underscores the program’s ability to quickly establish rapport with prospects. Comfort and fit played pivotal roles in Brown’s decision-making process, highlighting the program’s appeal and vision for his role.

Looking ahead, Brown’s versatility and potential for growth position him as a promising addition to West Virginia’s defensive unit. With seven scholarship players slated for roles at defensive end upon Brown’s arrival, opportunities for him to carve out a significant role are foreseeable.

West Virginia’s successful recruitment in Maryland underscores the coaching staff’s efforts to tap into talent-rich regions. Brown’s commitment adds to this trend, further solidifying the program’s foothold in the state.

In addition to his prowess as a defensive end, Brown’s versatility extends to every position on the defensive line, showcasing promise as a pass-rushing defensive tackle. While there is room for physical development and refinement in technique, Brown’s early demonstration of transitioning speed into power pass rushing bodes well for his future. With the guidance of Coach AJ Jackson, Brown’s potential is poised for realization on the collegiate stage.

The No. 16 player in Maryland and No. 62 defensive lineman in the nation. The multi-sport background is a pretty big deal, and the fact he can pick up wrestling and do so well speaks to his athleticism and competitiveness.

He shows some explosiveness at the snap. When he plays low, his lower body strength is evident against lineman as he punishes them into the quarterback. He is able to disengage easily in most cases, and give chase as well.

Taylor is best suited to add size and play on the interior of defensive line. He can play as a 3-technique and get up the field. He shows a nice spin move but he is raw with a lot of room for technical growth. Stay tuned to wvinsiders.com as we continue to follow the 2025 class and beyond.
