WVU Lands Top Recruits: A Record-Breaking Recruiting Week!

West Virginia University’s football program is making headlines with an unprecedented recruiting spree, securing commitments from top prospects in the classes of 2025 and 2026. These acquisitions not only bolster the Mountaineers’ roster but also solidify their position as a force to be reckoned with in collegiate football.

Huntingtown (MD) standout defensive lineman Evan Powell kicked off WVU’s recruiting success with his commitment. Powell, a three-star recruit according to 247Sports, announced his decision following a memorable official visit to Morgantown. Reflecting on his visit, Powell highlighted the camaraderie with players and coaches, particularly noting a visit to Coach Neal Brown’s home as a standout moment. His versatility and potential as a defensive end add depth to WVU’s defensive lineup for the upcoming seasons.

Joining Powell in WVU’s 2025 recruiting class is Michael Hastie, a highly touted three-star linebacker from Douglasville, Georgia. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 230 pounds, Hastie brings impressive stats from his high school career, including 122 total tackles and notable defensive contributions. His commitment underscores WVU’s ability to attract talent from across the nation, as Hastie opted for WVU over several other competitive offers.

Looking ahead to the Class of 2026, West Virginia University secured a pivotal commitment from quarterback Brodie McWhorter out of Cartersville, GA. Rated as a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite, McWhorter’s decision followed an extensive recruitment process where he visited Morgantown multiple times. His selection highlights WVU’s commitment to building a competitive roster for future seasons under the guidance of Head Coach Neal Brown and quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen.

With these commitments, WVU continues to climb the recruiting rankings, solidifying their stance among the nation’s top programs. As the Mountaineers prepare for upcoming seasons, the influx of talent promises an exciting future on the field and reaffirms WVU’s status as a destination for aspiring collegiate athletes.

  1. If our defense can be at least good and the offense can keep from stalling out from time to time, this season could be really special. I know the odds are not in our favor, but I’m expecting a W against Penn St. After that they need to just stay consistent. This team has the potential to win 10. They just need to take care of business.
