Can WVU land this visiting BIG MAN?

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Hoops is preparing to welcome transfer forward Duncan Powell for an official visit this week, according to a report from 247 sports Andrew Corbett. Powell’s visit is scheduled to span two days, from tomorrow through Thursday, as the recruiting dead period ended earlier this month this will certainly be a situation to watch because the Dallas native has Texas and other teams in hot pursuit of his talents.

Powell, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward from Dallas, Texas, began his collegiate career at North Carolina A&T, where he played for two seasons before transferring to Sacramento State. Last season at Sacramento State, Powell averaged 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Coming out of high school, Powell was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, ranking as the No. 73 power forward in the class of 2021 and the 24th best player in Texas.

If Powell joins the Mountaineers, he would be expected to play the “stretch 4” position, adding much-needed rebounding and interior scoring to the team. His presence on the court would greatly benefit from playing alongside Tucker DeVries and Javon Small, enhancing WVU’s overall team dynamics.

Currently, WVU has seven commitments from the transfer portal, with an eighth expected soon, as hinted by head coach Darian DeVries on Twitter this morning.
