Greene ranked #1 over Sanders, Rising, in PFF ranking

Garrett Greene: WVU’s Breakout Star Quarterback

In 2023, Garrett Greene finally got his chance to shine as the starting quarterback for West Virginia University, and he certainly made the most of it.

Greene ended the season with remarkable stats, passing for 2,406 yards and 16 touchdowns, with a completion rate of 147 out of 277 attempts and just four interceptions. What truly distinguished Greene was his running ability, a skill that brought a new dynamic to the Mountaineers’ offense. He ran for 772 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on 120 carries, tying him for eleventh place in career rushing touchdowns at WVU with Kerry Marbury (1971-72) and Kennedy McKoy (2016-19). Additionally, Greene’s running season ranks as one of the top 10 all-time for a quarterback in NCAA history.

Thanks to his outstanding junior year, Greene is now considered one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in college football. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), he is the highest-rated returning quarterback in the Big 12 Conference, outperforming notable players such as Shedeur Sanders (Colorado), Cam Rising (Utah), and Noah Fifita (Arizona). Although PFF included Sam Huard, who transferred to Utah, it appears to be an error in place of Rising.

Greene’s dual-threat prowess has firmly established him as a key player to watch, raising expectations for his performance in the upcoming season at WVU.
